My short time as a K12 Learning Coach

Last school year my son was really struggling in school. Third grade he was all A's and B's with an occasional C here and there. Then in fourth grade suddenly he's getting all D's and F's; and he had reached the point where he no longer wanted to go to school. His self-confidence and self esteem were at an all time low. The school called the Truancy Officer on him. When that didn't seem to have the desired impact on him, the Truancy Officer then got Welfare and the courts involved. She even went as far as threatening to have me locked up if he didn't start doing what was expected of him. That didn't motivate him. In fact all it succeeded in doing was causing him to shut down and withdraw even more.

So I decided to look into the K-12 Program that I had been seeing advertised on TV. I liked what they had to say, and enrolled him in the program. We are now going into our third week of school, and he is working so hard. I truly believe that K-12 was a godsend for him. As a Learning Coach, the work isn't that hard, especially if you truly care about your child's education. My son is finally getting excited about school again.

Some of the course work we can make hands on, which he seems to grasp a lot more than reading about it in a book. The Science work so far has been able to be made hands on. Sure we still do the book work, but then I take him outside and show him what he has learned in action. He then absorbs the lesson so much more by doing it in this manner. I look forward to what the rest of the school year has in store for us.
